夫妻俩立即给他们的家庭医生和该省的毒物和药物信息服务中心打电话。两者都建议他们等等看有什么症状。
在将他们的儿子送往医院急诊室后，他们开了阿苯达唑，需要在接触后三天内服用。因为其制造商尚未在加拿大提交药物申请，加拿大卫生部特别授权开具处方。但是，却找不到地方买这种药。
夫妻俩又把粪便送去化验，证明确实有卵。
后来，一个Shoppers Drug Mart 的工作人员通过自己的联络网发出救助信息，在加拿大两部的一家药房没有现成的，但有原料，就专门为他们配了这种药。
在摄入浣熊粪便 56 小时后，这家的儿子接受了他的第一剂阿苯达唑。
这个孩子在四个星期前接触到蛔虫，现在状态正常，这意味着他不在通常出现感染症状的窗口期。

Fifty-six hours after ingesting raccoon feces, Martin and Haughton's son received his first dose of albendazole.

Since Martin and Haughton's son was exposed to roundworm four weeks ago, it means he is outside of the usual window for symptoms of infection to appear.
